Muslim Activist Linda Sarsour Calls for 'Jihad' against Trump

July 7th 2017

Linda Sarsour, a Muslim activist who has been tied to the Hamas terrorist organization and who was a co-organizer of the Women’s March on Washington against President Trump in January, called for “jihad” against the Trump administration. Over the July 8-9 weekend, the voluble Sarsour addressed the -54th Annual Convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

In some 22 minutes, she called on the Muslims of America to fall in line in a holy war against the government, which she described as racist and Islamophobic. ISNA was initially organized to raise funds for Hamas, while federal prosecutors have labeled the ISNA as a constituent part of the Muslim Brotherhood network. The Muslim Brotherhood held power briefly after the so-called Arab Spring in Egypt in which President Hosni Mubarak, a US ally, was overthrown. The Muslim Brotherhood is banned in Egypt and has been tied to multiple acts of terrorism, including assassinations, church bombings, and persecution of Christians in pursuit of establishing a Muslim state.

In the past, the annual ISNA convention has featured radical Islamists, such as Anwar al-Awlaki, who later became the leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Approximately, 20,000 people attended this year’s convention in Rosemont, Illinois, near Chicago.

Sarsour kicked off the speech with thanks to her “favorite person in this room.” That person is Imam Siraj Wahhaj,” who Sarsour said “has been a mentor, motivator, and encourager of mine.” Wahhaj is an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings. Sarsour called on her Muslim co-religionists, saying: “Why sisters and brothers, why are we so unprepared. Why are we so afraid of this administration and the potential chaos that they will ensue on our community?”

In another segment of her fiery speech, Sarsour said, “I hope, that when we stand up to those who oppress our communities, that Allah accepts from us that as a form of jihad.” “We are struggling against tyrants and rulers not only abroad … but here in the United States of America, where you have fascists and white supremacists and Islamophobes reigning in the White House,” Sarsour continued. She exclaimed, “When I wake up in the morning, and I remember who is sitting in the White House, I am outraged,” adding, “This is not normal, sisters and brothers. Those people sitting in the most powerful seats in this country, is not normal.”

Sarsour also called on Muslims to refuse to assimilate to the United States.

“Our number one and top priority is to protect and defend our community. It is not to assimilate and to please any other people in authority,” she said. “And our top priority … is to please Allah, and only Allah.” "I hope that we when we stand up to those who oppress our communities that Allah accepts from us that as a form of jihad. That we are struggling against tyrants and rulers not only abroad in the Middle East or in the other side of the world, but here in these United States of America where you have fascists and white supremacists and Islamophobes reigning in the White House," Sarsour said.

"Our number one and top priority is to protect and defend our community, it is not to assimilate and please any other people and authority," she said. "Our obligation is to our young people, is to our women, to make sure our women are protected in our community." "Our top priority and even higher than all those other priorities is to please Allah and only Allah," Sarsour declared. Sarsour opposes bans on Islamic sharia law. She is a frequent guest on MSNBC and has also appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show. She has also been associated with various feminist and progressive political organizations.
