5:30 PM EST July 9. IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, has approved all of the plans for an IDF ground offensive into Gaza, IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Moti Almoz said Wednesday evening. He added that the pressure on Gaza will grow in the coming hours and the IAF attacks will become even more intense. -- Arutz7

1:49 PM ET July 9. The US condemned rocket fire from Gaza as the "deliberate targeting of civilians," while the EU denounced the "indiscriminate" fire and the "growing number of civilian casualties... caused by Israeli retaliatory fire," and demanded an immediate ceasefire. -- France24.
1:45 PM ET July 9. Hamas says that Israeli President Shimon Peres' threats to launch ground attack on Gaza Strip are silly and don't scare them. -- Jerusalem Post.
12:35 PM ET July 9. Hamas rockets reach Dimona for the first time. The Iron Dome knocked them down.
12:07 PM ET July 9. Sirens are wailing in Ashkelon and in cities in southern Israel. IDF says Hamas is using long range missiles to hit Haifa and Tel Aviv. More than 200 rockets have already been fired inot Israel today.
11:06 AM ET July 9. Hamas leader Khalad Mashal speaking live saying that even before the three Israeli boys were kidnapped, Netanyahu was killing their people and expanding the Judaisation of the West Bank. Mashal said the murder was a message to the world saying, "The Palestinians will not give up." He called it "A Blessed Incident." Mashal said that Netanyahu gave permission for Israeli soldiers to commit atrocities against the Palestinians.Mashal devoted a good portion of his speech to the ceasing of paying salaries to the Hamas (terrorists) workers, and that as they enter Ramadan without money; they have been demoralized and hurt. He referenced money issues a few times, possibly indicating that they are feeling the squeeze and launched this new round of attacks as a way to force the issue. i24 News
10:06 AM ET July 9. Israel rejects any terms and conditions that Hamas set to "put and end" to their launching of rockets. PM Netanyahu said that Hamas' conditons include no more arresting of Palestinians or searching for terrorists. Hamas' rockets have traveled further and into places that many in Israel had not expected from their presumed capabilities.
8:40 AM ET July 9. Ashkelon has been on high alert, being on the front of the Gaza barrage. The Iron Dome "is the hero" of the situation so far, having intercepted 90% of its targets.
8:32 AM ET July 9. Being 8-hours since the last sirens rang throughout Israel, news reports in Tel Aviv show life is going on and people are going about their day. "People have the confidence in the Iron Dome system." So far, the Iron Dome has intercepted 7 out of 7 missiles fired.
7:59 AM ET July 9. A Code Red siren was heard over Zichron Yaakov, just south of Haifa and 90 miles north of Gaza. TV reports say that two rockets fell in open fields outside of Zichron Yaakov. -- Jerusalem Post.
7:15 AM ET July 9, 2014. A Code Red siren was heard over the Kyriat Gat area followed by an interception by the Iron Dome defense system.
7:12 AM ET July 9, 2014. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas conferred with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi today, briefing him on Operation Protective Edge. "Sisi stressed Egypt was interested in the safety of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and sparing this grave assault," said Abba's office. Cairo will "exert efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire." Sisi has closed the Egyptian-Gaza border, increasing economic pressure on Hamas from a long-running Israeli blockade. -- wire services.
6:24 AM ET July 9, 2014. Palestinian media reported that a father and son were killed in the bombing of a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza by Israeli aircraft. Also killed was 80-year-old woman in the Moghraqa area of central Gaza. Gaza medical authorities say 27 people killed so far during Operation Protective Edge. -- Jerusalem Post.
6:22 AM ET July 9, 2014. Some 40 rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza thus far today. Eight have been intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. A rocket exploded in the Eshkol region of Israel, even though no siren was sounded. No injuries or damages were reported. -- Jerusalem Post.
6:14 AM ET July 9, 2014. Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon says IDF campaign against Hamas to expand and "will exact huge price." On Day 2 of Operation Protective Edge, Ya'alon said “We are destroying arms, terrorist infrastructure, command and control systems, and institutions." Palestinian officials say 4 killed in Gaza today. -- Jerusalem Post.
5:54 AM ET July 9, 2014. Israel called up 40,000 reservists, preparing for a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, even as it said it hoped its arrest of Jewish extremists for the apparent revenge killing of a Palestinian boy. The arrests appeared to do little to quiet the protests that have engulfed Israel and the West Bank over the last week.“We worked immediately to find the perpetrators,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the boy’s father in a phone call. “They will be tried and brought to justice.” -- TIME Magazine.
