6:47 PM ET July 16. The evening is so far relatively quiet in Israel and Gaza.  Hamas has yet to accept the humanitarian ceasefire proposal, while Israel has. Saeb Erekat, speaking to Wolf Blitzer on CNN believes that Hamas will ultimately agree to the proposal temporarily.

3:02 PM ET July 16. Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the Zionist regime has shown that they do not care for women or children, and continues to indiscriminately fire illegal weapons at children. -- i24News

3:02 PM ET July 16. An array of rockets were fired into Ashdod and Ashkelon. One landed on an Ashdod school which housed a bonm shelter. No damage to the building and the Iron Dome knocked out severeral more rockets.

8,000 more reserves were called up today.

Israel applied to the U.N. asking for a humanitarian aid six-hour ceasefire so that residents of Gaza can take cover and leave the areas where Israel expects to enter or hit by air attacks. It will also give Gaza hospitals time to replenish and move seriously wounded patients.

11:47 AM ET July 16. Rockets continued to hit southern Israel throughout the afternoon. Between 4 and 5:30 pm, 4 mortar shells fell outside a community in Eshkol. Another rocket hit a structure in Eshkol. No injuries were reported. Three more rockets fell in open territories in Sdot Negev, and 2 were intercepted by the Iron Dome above Netivot. At around 3 pm, two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in open territories in Sdot Negev, and 3 were intercepted over Ashkelon. In addition, a rocket exploded in a community in Eshkol Regional Council, causing a fire to break out. Three more fell in open territories. -Ynet

11:17 AM ET July 16. Hamas proposed a 10-day ceasefire in exchange for new conditions: release re-arrested Palestinian prisoners who were let go in the Schalit deal, the opening of Gaza-Israel border crossings in order to allow citizens and goods to pass through, and international supervision of the Gazan seaport in place of the current Israeli blockade. - Jerusalem Post

9:35 AM ET July 16. The Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini pledged Italy's support of Israel and condemnation of Hamas' attacks into Israel. -Reuters

8:35 AM ET July 16. IDF reports that it has been targeting Hamas leaders and that many may be hiding in Al-Shifa Hospital. Next Tuesday the European Foreign Affairs Council is having its monthly meeting in Brussels. Israel has received confirmation that the concluding statements will include a harsh condemnation of Israel for its treatment of Palestinians, but not for the current action in Gaza. Israel officials are working with the European group to soften the language. Members of Peru's Palestinian community and their supporters gathered outside Israel's Peruvian embassy chanting "This is not a war, it is genocide."

8:33 AM ET July 16. Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman asks for international support for Israel's effort to "provide security and safety for our citizens."

Four children are claimed to have been killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks.

8:03 AM ET July 16. Missiles from Gaza hit a house in Ashkelon. No injuries reported, and the emrgency teams are clearing the ordinance now.

6:21 AM ET July 16. IDF issues pamphlets urgings one hundred thousand Gazans to immediately leave their homes in advance of military operations
