4:45 PM ET July 17, 2014. IDF Spokesman made a call to the people of Gaza and asked that they leave the area. He said that the military was ready and prepared for this incursion.
4:26 PM ET July 17, 2014. Israel has coordinated with Egypt and PA President Abbas a resolution blaming Hamas for deaths incurred by the ground invasion. i24news.com
4:10 PM ET July 17, 2014. Israel's ground invasion has begun.
3:39 PM ET July 17, 2014. The Prime Minister of Israel approved a limited ground offensive to destroy the tunnels that lead from Gaza to Israel. One adult and three teenagers were indicted today in Israel for the kidnapping and murder of the 16 year old Mohammed Abu Khdeir. The government of Israel is considering this an act of terror.
3:31 PM ET July 17, 2014. IDF shot down a Hamas drone over Israel territory. In the past 30 minutes, a barrage of 10 rockets was fired at Tel Aviv and seven were knocked down by the Iron Dome. No injuries reported.
2:34 PM ET July 17, 2014. Heavy fire is reported in Gaza from Israeli air strikes over the past 30 minutes. There is "a lot" of activity in Gaza and it appears that power may be out in Gaza near the border. -i24News.com1:10 PM ET July 17, 2014. All Clear in Ashkelon and Ashdod. Two rockets were intercepted. One man was injured when he was run over by a vehicle as they were running for the shelter. Over 100 rockets have been launched from Gaza since the "cease-fire" ended.
1:07 PM ET July 17, 2014. Sirens heard in Ashdod and Ashkelon right now. People are entering shelter.
10:30 AM ET July 17, 2014. No injuries have been reported in the south,and all road are being re-opened. No more information on the activity.
10:02 AM ET July 17, 2014. News Reports of a 'serious incursion' from Gaza into Israel occurred in an area near the border down south. IDF has asked residents to stay in their homes, all roads are closed. and there is 'intense' activity being conducted. So far no additional information has been offered, but IDF reports that there is a lot of activity in the area and it will report shortly. Sirens rang in Ashkelon and there were three interceptions made by the Iron Dome. On the economic front, several conferneces and concerts have been cancelled and tourism has been down as a result. -- i24news
9:30 AM ET July 17, 2014. UNRWA Strongly Condemns Hamas' Placement of Rockets in School. In the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered approximately 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip.
9:09 AM ET July 17, 2014. A colaition of regional councils and IDF officers jointly published a full page ad in Israeli newspapers protesting the New Israeli Fund alliance with agitation NGOs. The ad issued a call "1) To human rights organizations throughout the world to condemn the indiscriminate attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilian targets. 2) To the New Israel Fund headed by Brian Lurie, to prevent any partnership of organizations supported by the NIF fund, by blood libels accusing the IDF of alleged war crimes, and to condemn the lies that have been spread over the past days against IDF warriors."
8:01 AM ET July 17, 2014. Rockets barraged into Israel from Gaza breaking the cease fire that was scheduled. There are reports that a genuine cease fire has been reached for tomorrow at the same time, but Palestinian and Israeli sources claim it is untrue.
7:59 AM ET July 17, 2014. Two special flights arrived to Israel’s Ben Gurion airport, filled with 430 French Jewish immigrants leaving Paris and its suburbs on Wednesday, July 16. The flights, organized by the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, had mostly families, including 195 children and 18 babies. Despite the security situation in Israel, dozens of French Jews will be moving to the southern cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon. The rest will live in communities throughout the Jewish state including 100 in Tel Aviv and 130 in Netanya. On Thursday, the new Israelis will receive their Israeli ID cards (te'udot zehut) in festive ceremony in Jerusalem. Not one new immigrant cancelled his or her arrival to Israel, even with the heavy rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, according to the Jewish Agency Chairman, Natan Sharansky, who was on hand to welcome the new immigrants along with the Minister of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption Sofa Landver. -Tazpit
6:51 PM ET July 17. A terror attack was thwarted in south Israel last night. Thirteen terrorists infiltrated Israel via a tunnel dug under the border. The infiltrators were discovered and several of the terrorists tried to escape back to Gaza. A heavy battle ensued and the IDF used its air force and artillery fire. All residents in the area were ordered to stay in their homes. There are reports that the fighting is still continuing and that the IDF is still hunting down some of the terrorists. IDF reports that several of the terrorists were hit, but no injuries were incurred by IDF soldiers. -Tazpit
