11:00 AM ET July 27. Israeli PM Netanyahu told American media that Hamas had violated a ceasefire that it had itself called for. "They are violating their own ceasefire. Under these circumstances, Israel will do what it must do to defend its people," Netanyahu told CNN. -- Martin Barillas
On CBS, Netanyahu said Israel would not allow "a ruthless terror organisation... to decide when it's convenient for them to stop for a moment, rearm, and continue firing on our citizens and our people." -- i24News.
10:55 AM ET July 27. Hamas agreed to halt firing from 1100 GMT in response to a UN request. However, explosions could still be heard at that time. -- AFP
10:50 AM ET July 27. Netanyahu said that Israel would continue operations to dismantle Hamas' cross-border tunnel network and to destroy its stocks of rockets. "I'm not going to talk about specific military operation," he said. "Israel is doing what any other country would do and the US would do if any percent of your country were under fire and you have 60 or 90 seconds to get to a bomb shelter. I would say we want to stop firing rockets for sure. We want to dismantle the tunnel, the terror tunnel network we uncovered. I don't know if we'll have 100 percent success," he said. "Our soldiers are dealing with it now." He insisted Israel does not deliberately target Palestinian civilians. -- CNN
7:26 AM ET July 27. Hamas asked UN representative Robert Serry to arrange for new 24-hour humanitarian cease-fire, after breaking previous cease-fire. In response, Israeli Construction and Housing Minister Uri Ariel said, "After breaking the cease-fire and killing our soldiers, Hamas is now on its knees begging for a humanitarian cease-fire. Mr. Prime Minister, don't let them have it! Now is the time to strike them until the end and finish this story once and for all. The time has come for us to stop being nice." "A cease-fire would be like lending a hand to the opponent to help him get up, and then giving him something to drink so he can compose himself ... Especially at this moment, it's impossible to take the foot off the pedal. Now is the time to be determined," Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said. -- Jerusalem Post and i24News.
7:20 AM ET July 27. Rocket sirens wailed in Ashkelon Coast Regional Council, and Eshkol Regional Council. Three rockets fell in the latter area. -- Jerusalem Post.
7:19 AM ET July 27. The IDF resumes striking targets in the Gaza Strip, including concealed rocket launchers, a terror tunnel and three terrorists. A rocket landed in the Eshkol, but did not cause damage or injuries. -- Jerusalem Post.
