Israeli soldier emerges from Hamas tunnel

2:01 PM ET July 30, 2014. An Israeli delegation arrives in Cairo to discuss with Egyptian officials a possible ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, airport officials say. Cairo, a key mediator in truce negotiations between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers, was also expected to host a Palestinian delegation later this week. The Cairo airport official does not identify the two-member Israeli delegation, but says they were scheduled to depart after a visit of several hours, in which they would discuss proposals for a truce. – AFP

12:19 pM ET July 30, 2014. The United States is condemning the shelling of a UN school in the Gaza Strip that was sheltering displaced Palestinians. The US did not say who was responsible for shelling the school. Gaza officials say Israel shelled the school, killing 15 and wounding 90. The Israeli military says it fired back after soldiers were targeted by mortar rounds launched from the vicinity of the school. White House spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan says the US is also "extremely concerned" that thousands of Palestinians aren’t safe in UN-designated shelters in Gaza. Meehan says the US also condemns those responsible for hiding weapons in UN facilities in Gaza. She says the escalation shows the need for a ceasefire as soon as possible. – AP

8:29 AM ET July 30, 2014. Hamas has executed scores of Gazan civilians over the past few days, this according to several separate reports. Yisrael Hayom quotes Arab news sources that report that Hamas has executed some 30 Gazan civilians for allegedly collaborating with Israel. Human rights groups report that some were executed after being caught ‘red handed’ while marking targets for the Israeli Air Force. All the alleged collaborates were summarily executed without trial. A separate report by several new sources describes protesters in Beit Hanun who were shot in the street by Hamas on Sunday for demonstrating against Hamas’ leadership and the destruction caused to the Gaza Strip. They blamed Hamas for the calamity which has befallen the civilians of the Gaza Strip. Some 20 protesters were rounded up and shot in front of a crowd. Hamas has previously been harshly condemned by the international community after being accused by local Gazans of summary executions of alleged collaborators who were shot on the basis of mere rumors or who confessed after being horribly tortured and were shot. -Tazpit

7:00 AM ET July 30, 2014. Heavy fighting reported in the southern Gazan city of Khan Yunis after building collapses in explosion, according to Palestinian sources. Seven members of the same family were killed when an Israeli tank shelling struck the southern city of Khan Yunis, medics said. According to emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra, the victims were all from the Abu Amer family. AFP

6:55 AM ET July 30, 2014. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor expressed "deep disappointment" over El Salvador, Peru and Chile recall of their ambassadors for consultations. "This step constitutes encouragement for Hamas, a group recognized as a terror organization by many countries around the world," Palmor added. Last week, the ambassadors of Ecuador and Brazil were similarly recalled. i24News

6:50 AM ET July 30, 2014. Israeli army says it struck over 75 terror sites in the Gaza Strip. Overnight, the Israeli air force 'targeted five mosques which were utilized for terror purposes... in addition, the (army) targeted a facility utilized by a senior Hamas militant, who is in charge of the Hamas cyber division.' - i24News

05:55 AM ET July 30, 2014. Two Israeli soldiers were lightly injured as an armored vehicle was hit with an anti-tank missile while operating in the Gaza strip. Two rockets exploded in open territory in the southern Eshkol Regional Council. i24News

05:53 AM ET July 30, 2014. An Israeli shelling of a UN school in northern Gaza killed around 20 people, medics said, raising their earlier toll of 10 dead. However, the UN said it was between 13 and 15, in the shelling that hit the UNRWA girls' school in Jabalia in the north of Gaza. - i24News.

05:50 AM ET July 30, 2014. Weapons were found in an UNRWA school in the Gaza Strip for the third time in one week. UNRWA condemned the incident. - Israeli Army Radio
