5:45 PM ET July 31, 2014. US and UN Announce Deal on Gaza Cease-Fire, The United States and United Nations are announcing that Israel and Hamas have agreed to a humanitarian cease-fire to start Friday morning for 72 hours.  All parties have agreed to it and it will begin 1AM Eastern time, 8AM in Israel. --ABC News

2:40 PM ET July 31, 2014.  Rockets were intercepted above Ashkelon shortly after sirens sounded in the Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Eshkol regional councils during the night. -- Jerusalem Post.

2:35 PM ET July 31, 2014.  Police warned  the public against travelling to communities near the Gaza, following a mortar attack in the Eshkol Regional Council that left eight hurt.  -- Jerusalem Post.

2:30 PM ET July 31, 2014. The shelling of a UN facility in Gaza this week by the Israeli military is "totally unacceptable and totally indefensible," said White House spokesman Josh Earnestsaid. "The shelling of a UN facility that is housing innocent civilians who are fleeing violence is totally unacceptable and totally indefensible." - CNN and wires.

2:25 PM ET July 31, 2014. The Pentagon called on Israel to protect civilian life during its military operations in Gaza. "The civilian casualties in Gaza have been too high. And it's become clear that the Israelis need to do more to live up to their very high standards - their very high and very public standards - for protecting civilian life," Colonel Steve Warren said at a news briefing.

Gaza officials say more than 1,370 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in the battered enclave. Israel says 56 of its soldiers and three civilians have been killed. -- Jerusalem Post and wires.

2:30 PM ET July 31, 2014. Over the last two hours, Code Red sirens sounded in the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council, Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, Ashkelon Coast Regional Council, and Eshkol Regional Council. . Five rockets hit open areas in the Sha'ar Hanegev and Eshkol regional councils. Iron Dome intercepts rocket over Tel Aviv area. One rocket fell in Kiryat Gat. -- Jerusalem Post.

11:07 AM ET July 31, 2014. Tel Aviv is under Code Red missile alert at the moment. There were some interceptions over Tel Aviv.

Another 18,000 reservists were called up to be ready.

9:25 AM ET July 31, 2014. Three Israeli soldiers were killed yesterday by a boobytrap while searching a Hamas tunnel under a mosque in Gaza. - BBC

9:22 AM ET July 31, 2014. Knesset Member Danny Danon said in a BBC interview that the U.S. ceasefire proposal that demands unconditional concession from Israel is unacceptable and "insulting."

7:35 AM ET July 31, 2014. The war entered its 24th day today, making it the longest of the three Israeli operations against terror targets in Gaza in less than six years. Since being ordered to expand operations in Gaza in order to destroy additional Hamas tunnels, the army announced today that it would immediately call up 16,000 additional reservists. This will bring to about 85,000 the number called up so far. The U.S. confirmed on July 30 that it had sold to Israel a supply of grenades and mortar rounds from a local U.S. arms supply. The War Reserve Stockpile Ammunition-Israel is worth $1 billion. This came even as the U.S. called on Israel to "promptly and fully" investigate its shelling of an UNWRA school in Gaza, in which 16 Palestinians, including children, were killed on July 30. Israel is pledged to investigate.

So far, according to Palestinian sources, 1,350 people have been killed and more than 7,170 wounded since the start of the Israeli offensive. Of the 6,233 injured, 1,949 were children, it said. The UN humanitarian agency OCHA said up to 240,000 Palestinians had been internally displaced by the ongoing fighting, with the UN agency for refugees saying over 200,000 of them had taken refuge in 85 of its shelters. Israel has lost 56 militarys, as well as three civilians. About 4,100 targets in Gaza have been hit, and over 2,670 rockets were fired into Israel, of which 2,102 landed and another 513 of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. -- i24News.

7:25 AM ET July 31, 2014. UN human rights chief Navi Pillay denounced Israel's "deliberate defiance" of international law during the Gaza conflict and deplored Israeli attacks on homes, schools, hospitals and UN facilities in Gaza. "None of this appears to me to be accidental," she told reporters. "There appears to be deliberate defiance of obligations that international law imposes on Israel." - i24News

07:06 AM ET July 31, 2014: Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon: "Hamas suffered unprecedented damage," during Operation Protective Edge. PM Netanyahu said "We will not agree to a ceasefire without the destruction of tunnels." During his remarks, rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israel. At least seven rockets intercepted over the city Sderot, one person lightly wounded by debris. - i24News

07:00 AM ET July 31, 2014. Israeli forces killed a Hamas terrorist in a Gaza tunnel. Additionally, an Israeli Air Force strike killed six terrorists from the air in Gaza. Five rockets land in open areas in southern Israel; one lands near the city of Ashkelon. -- i24News

06:50 AM ET July 31, 2014. "The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability," Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement. - i24News.
